Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad awards Honorary Member Kevin Colacello with Special Proclamation

**Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad awards Honorary Member Kevin Colacello with Special Proclamation**

The Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad (UFCRS) today proudly announced the presentation of a special proclamation honoring Kevin Colacello who is an honorary member of the organization. This recognition celebrates Kevin’s remarkable achievement in qualifying and being selected to represent Special Olympics New Jersey (Team NJ) at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, taking place June 20-26, 2026, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The proclamation was presented during a heartfelt ceremony by UFCRS leadership, including:

– President Michael Sullivan
– Deputy Chief Vito Vacirca
– Deputy EMS Chief Jason Read, Hopewell Borough Emergency Medical Unit

Jason Read, himself a distinguished gold medalist in rowing from the 2004 Athens Olympics (as part of the U.S. Men’s Eight team), assisted in the presentation to highlight the spirit of perseverance, teamwork, and excellence that Kevin embodies—qualities shared across athletic and emergency service communities.

Kevin Colacello, a dedicated Special Olympics New Jersey athlete from the Mercer area, has demonstrated outstanding commitment through years of training, competition, and participation in events such as swimming, basketball floor hockey, soccer, other sports. His selection to Team NJ marks a pinnacle achievement, as he prepares to join hundreds of athletes from across the state in competing against top talent from all 50 states at the national Games hosted at the University of Minnesota and other premier venues in the Twin Cities.

“Kevin’s journey inspires everyone in our organization and beyond,” said UFCRS President Michael Sullivan. “As an honorary member of UFCRS, he represents the very best of determination and community spirit. We’re incredibly proud to honor and support him with this proclamation and wish him every success at the 2026 USA Games.”

The 2026 Special Olympics USA Games will feature over 3,000 athletes competing in 16 Olympic-type sports, promoting inclusion, ability, and unity. Team New Jersey’s delegation includes athletes, Unified partners, and coaches ready to showcase their talents on this national stage.

UFCRS, a volunteer-based fire, rescue, and EMS provider serving Hopewell Township and surrounding communities in New Jersey since 1920, extends its full support to Kevin and celebrates this milestone as a testament to the power of inclusion and achievement in our community.
